Our Setting

Searchers and Seekers are situated in the grounds of Longhoughton Church of England First School and runs very much in partnership with both Tiny Explorers and the school to ensure a seamless Foundation Stage for our children. Children may join us once they have reached the age of three years and they usually remain with us until they begin full time school after their fourth birthday. The Nursery is managed by Nursery Practitioner Mrs Caroline Blake, who is supported by a team of highly qualified Early Years Practitioners maintaining a ratio of one adult to every eight children. We provide an open and welcoming environment for both children and parents and together as a team we can ensure that your child is happy, secure and that h/she has access to an inspiring learning environment.

Play is recognised as the main vehicle for children’s learning and we have carefully resourced the setting to allow the children to explore and develop skills whilst carrying out fun activities such as role play, which develops language and pre-reading skills; construction and puzzle making, which develop problem solving skills and spatial awareness; activities like looking after caterpillars and watching them develop into butterflies, bringing an understanding of the world around them.

Outdoor Learning

Our activities are fun and the children spend a great deal of time outdoors, including numerous visits to a local Forest School and free access to a local woodland garden. We are lucky enough to be able to access many different environments to enhance the children’s learning and can often be found on the beach or visiting a local farm and also working in the school garden. Learning outdoors is one of the main themes of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, which came into force in September 2008, and we are happy to say that this is already an important element of our philosophy.

In summary we aim to provide a well planned learning environment for your child where they will be inspired to explore and develop skills which will carry them on to life long learning. But most importantly, we all have fun!

The recent Ofsted inspection report (April 2009) noted, “Parents say that the setting is a safe and very happy place to which their children enjoy coming” and “children’s learning and development needs are very well met”. It was also noted “Children's curiosity and questioning skills are very well developed through access to quality learning challenges. These are very well linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage and ensure continuity of learning when children move on to school”.
